Beach Fun (feat. Story the Dog)

So, I went to the beach the other day with the intention of recording some pretty beach scenery.
HOWEVER,
My wonderful (yet camera loving) dog decided to take center stage, and so this video quickly turned into a video of my dog playing about on the beach.

This was recorded with my phone (an iPhone 5), and I'm actually quite impressed by the camera quality at points.

I'll be recording better videos soon (using my actual camera!), so look forward to that! :)

Back To Basics

Firstly, please allow me to explain that these photos are not recent. In fact, they are almost two years old, taken in the Christmas of 2011.
My reasoning behind uploading such dated photos is due to the fact that I'd like to use this blog as almost a "progress marker", a place where I can look back and observe older photographs, understand what went wrong, what I could improve, and also notice my improvement when comparing two different periods of my life.
So, as the title says, we're going "back to basics" with my photography, starting all the way back in the Christmas of 2011.
(Don't worry, we'll be up to date soon; I promise.)

This first photo is one that, although the background is unfitting in my opinion, I feel has quite a nice effect to it.
PROS - I used my camera to focus on the glass, and blur the background. I also positioned the glass so the light would shine through, lighting up the peachy coloured beverage, and adding a glistening effect to the glass.
CONS - As stated earlier, I really dislike the background on this image. I feel that with the area of focus (the glass) being quite classy and sophisticated, a 'homely' background doesn't quite fit the part. (However, what can you expect on Christmas Day? It's the day that most families come together as one, so why not bring out the fine glasses and alcoholic beverages? I think I might let myself off on this occasion.)

PROS - (I think that on this day, I might have been slightly insane when it came to the close up's.) I also like this photo for very similar reasons to the first photo. The bracelet is the main focus of the image, and I have focused the camera so that it is refining the details in the middle two charms, being the "K", and the hedgehog beside it. I have also focused on the skin around the area, contrasting the metal bracelet to the pale skin.
CONS- Again, the same reason as the last photo. I don't feel as though the background is giving the bracelet full justice. (However, if we were to fully analyse reasoning's behind the placement of objects within the photo, perhaps one could say that the cold metal on the skin contrasts greatly to the fire burning wildly in the background? +1 for the CONS list.)
I also slightly dislike the fact that I haven't focused on more of the charms closer to the camera lens. However, I think that is more due to the fact that my camera is unable to focus on something so close. This is something I'll need to take note of, as I do feel that it hinders the attractive appeal towards the bracelet and photo as a whole.

 Oh, those Christmas time feelings.
PROS- I really do like this photo. Unlike the other two, I think the background is extremely fitting.
I have focused the camera on the blue bauble, which happens to be slightly transparent, with what looks like frozen tree branches inside. I feel that looking at this photo, it gives off a very nice Christmas vibe.
CONS - Whilst the bauble is nicely focused, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the ice cold blue, compared to the warm greens and reds within the background of the photo. On one hand, it can be seen as skillful and interesting. On another, however, it can be seen as something that just isn't fitting. I guess you could say that it all counts on personal opinion. Think what you may, however, I feel that a colder looking background might have been more fitting for this photo.

(My personal favourite within the set.)
PROS - The lighting within this photo is probably what I love most. The shadows linger around the outside of the glass, leaving the beverage, ice, and condensation building around it the lightest part of the photo. To me, it's almost as though the glas sis radiating the light. I think it's very nicely spread around the glass, and gives off a very soft and relaxing feel.
CONS - To me, I am happy with this photo. However, you will rarely create something in life without flaws. A flaw I would like to point out are the bowls beside the glass. I feel they distract the viewers attention from the glass, and so hinder the quality of the photo. I also feel that the photo would look better without the objects in the back, such as the light stand.
If it were only the glass on show, I could guarantee that this photo would look significantly better.

Thank you for viewing. :)

All About Eden

Hello! I'm Eden; a sixteen year old girl with a passion for film, photography and music.

I created this blog for a few reasons, one reason being my love for photography, and my wants to share them with the world. I've also created this blog to go along as a side project with my school Media Studies blog, www.edenhallmediastudies.blogspot.com.

I intend to upload almost every photo I take (unless it is horribly out of focus, or a photo of my dog dressed up). Thank you for looking at my blog and I'm sure you'll be seeing more updates from me! :)
